While there are so many different sippy cups and sports bottles on the market, I find it a challenge to get one that is appropriate for a preschool-age child. I’m not big on juice boxes or harming the environment by purchasing pre-packaged bottled water, so I need a few cups that I can use each day that are age-appropriate. I also want drinks to stay cold while we are out-and-about, so the cup would have to be insulated as the sippy cups are. I think we’ve found our cup!
The Nuby Insulated No-Spill Flip-It has a colorful two-in-one cup design that not only keeps liquids fresh and cool, it also helps protect the furniture from a “sweating” cup. This cup features a soft sipper straw, which is gentle to your child’s delicate teeth and gums. It is great for travel and short trips. The flip top is easy for preschool-age children to open and close independently. It’s basically a reusable version of a cup/lid/straw you’d get in a restaurant, but you don’t have to worry about it tipping over and spilling. Additionally, using a straw cup over a sippy cup promotes proper oral-motor strength and development.

Did it pass the shake upside down test?

Yep! I didn’t mention this in my review, but this cup would be good for children who are breastfeeding because it has a pretty slow flow, similar to a slow flow nipple on a bottle, so children would have to really work at it (as they do while breastfeeding).

Does any manufacturer ever try to wash one of the straw cups they sell? Yes, they are pretty and easy on the little teeth and gums, and no-spill, and keep the drinks cool (for some time). But they are composed of fifty different parts, which need to be disassembled and scrubbed, brushed and rinsed separately, and the results still may be questionable. And Nubby are one of the worst – sorry to go against your cheerful spirit on this one. Try taking the slider away. Once, my then two-year-old succeeded and I could not believe how much mold was stuck in there. I wash the straws with a brush similar to the pipecleaner sticks and even that does not always get rid of the mold trapped inside. And finding just a straw or a lid replacement is not an easy task. I’d rather have a simpler cup, which does not need to be trashed after 2-3 weeks of usage.

I understand your points and appreciate your response. I found this cup to be simple to wash by hand, but I will certainly monitor it for mold. There’s no ‘perfect’ solution to any product. This was a good option for my family that can be ‘assembled’ quickly.

Does it leak? That is my main issue with all these sippy cups! Leakage out of the top of the straw! I have yet to find one that doesn’t.
