This Chicken Nest Easter Egg Craft is so fun to make with your family and is a great way to decorate your springtime table!
In the past few months, I’ve shared two delicious recipes using my favorite eggs – Happy Egg Co. Free-est of the Free Range™ eggs – but now I’m sharing an awesome Easter craft that you can make with your kids! These eggs are a rich, beautiful color, and each one has a unique pattern of speckles or a different shade of brown, so I decided rather than covering the egg entirely with a wrap or coloring the egg with dye, I’d highlight that color by transforming them into hens. And since these are eggs, why not create a nest with the hen sitting among the eggs? This is such a fun way to decorate your Easter table or really any special springtime occasion.
Chicken Nest Easter Egg Craft Materials:
- 3 Happy Egg Co. Free-est of the Free Range™ eggs {per nest}
- Small clay flower pot
- Clay saucer
- Small craft nest
- Card stock in a variety of colors
- Scissors
- Craft glue
- Black permanent marker
Chicken Nest Easter Egg Craft Directions:
Gather all of your materials to get started. Begin by hard boiling your eggs, allowing them to cool, and drying off the surface entirely. This is a fun craft to make with kids, so decide which parts they can complete independently or with assistance in advance based on their current abilities.
Next, simply cut out the pieces of your chicken using card stock. I made two brown wings, an orange beak, and a red topper. Use craft glue to adhere each cut-out into the right position and allow it to dry. I used egg stands to hold them in place properly, but you can just work on them in the carton or a small bowl. Draw eyes with a permanent marker.
Use chalkboard markers to write your child’s name on a clay flower pot. Place a small bird’s nest {you can pick these up at your local craft store} inside the clay pot. You may need craft foam to support it. Add two plain eggs and your mama hen into the nest.
I surprised the kids with these eggs when they came home from school. As you can see, Lydia loved her chicken egg! Next time, she wants to help me make them. It would be fun to make baby chicks, too, with yellow wings, maybe even open-looking beaks. This is a craft that you can definitely vary based on your child’s interests or your overall decor.
