Have fun with these ideas for an Easter Basket for Active Boys!

It’s almost Easter, and rather than packing a boring Easter basket with traditional stuffed animals and plastic eggs, I decided to put together this Easter basket for active boys. Why? Well, I definitely have an active boy. He loves to run around the backyard, play on the swing set, toss a football, and get dirty. I wanted to put together a basket with lots of different activities that he can enjoy in our backyard and within our community. So here’s how I assembled the basket. To begin, shop for lots of active toys, tools, and equipment. Toys to Teach is a great site to find kid’s toys if you are in the UK, they cover literally everything!

“The Hunt Is On” this Easter, so here’s a list of items that I thought would work well in this Easter basket for active boys:

  • refillable bubbles
  • small net for catching tadpoles or insects
  • shovels for digging/planting
  • sunglasses
  • water bottle
  • jump rope
  • pinwheel
  • additional ideas: flashlight or lantern, fishing gear, small balls {e.g. bouncy or tennis}, beach toys, and a nerf fortnite AR-L blaster.

To build this basket, I started with, well, an empty basket. Rather than picking a holiday-themed basket with bunnies, chicks, and eggs or even pastel colors, I went with a neutral basket that can be used for holding rocks, flowers, and outdoor toys in the future. Think function! I placed a piece of floral craft foam at the bottom.

Next, I covered the foam with multi-colored green paper grass. I prefer the paper grass over the traditional plastic Easter basket grass because the kids can have fun with it in the backyard and it is biodegradable. I don’t have to worry about the litter left behind.

I added all of the larger pieces to the basket. This includes an Easter-themed jumprope for active play, bubble wand, small shovel and rake, small net for fish or insects, and bunny sunglasses. Several of these items had to be pushed through the floral craft foam. It helps to dig out a small tunnel with scissors first.

In addition to the items listed above, I added an “adventure” water bottle for hydration, a large toy grasshopper, and a pinwheel. You can also add paddles for ping pong if your kids love playing ping pong, mine do! All of these are great for outdoor play. I know Bryce will enjoy them all when he runs around outside with his sister.

No Easter basket is complete without some sweet treats. I purchased a large bag of Easter treats at Sam’s Club. This bag included some of our family favorites, like SNICKERS®, TWIX®, and M&M’S®. I placed some of them around the basket. I also added two Easter bunny treat bags filled with candies to the basket. They add the perfect festive touch.

My Easter basket for active boys is now complete. It’s fun to enjoy established holiday traditions and come up with some new ones. Perhaps each year we will create different themed baskets for the kids as they mature and their interests changed.
