Put away the devices and head outdoors to make Traditional Campfire S’mores!
One of the main reasons we moved to Gainesville, Florida almost two years ago was to enjoy more family time outdoors. The weather is a little cooler, and we have a much larger, wooded backyard. Our home is on about 1/3 of an acre, and since purchasing our home, we cleared out the overgrowth, added a playground area, and added a paved patio. The most important part of the patio? The fire pit! This allows us to make traditional campfire s’mores together as a family. This is so fun to do year-round, but especially during the summer, when the days are longer, and we can spend time outdoors without worrying about school-night bedtime. We especially love to celebrate with S’mores Saturdays!
Traditional Campfire S’mores Ingredients:
- JET-PUFFED Marshmallows
- HONEY MAID Graham Crackers
- Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bars
Traditional Camfire S’mores Directions:
Begin by gathering your ingredients, including HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate 6-pack, a box of HONEY MAID Graham Crackers, and a package of JET PUFFED Marshmallows, and heading to the backyard. I shopped at Dollar General, where I was able to find the graham crackers, marshmallows, and milk chocolate bars without the hassle of long lines or a huge store to navigate. So convenient! Because we are cooking on an open fire, I made sure Richard was with the kids the whole time.

Richard began by demonstrating how to toast the marshmallow over the fire pit. Few things in the world taste more amazing than traditional campfire s’mores made with burnt marshmallows. We let ours get nice and toasty before blowing out the fire. The kids had so much fun watching Richard make the first one, then trying it out themselves {caution: children do like to sneak marshmallows and eat them plain before toasting them over the fire}.
To assemble the s’mores, just sandwich half a HERSHEY’S chocolate bar and the gooey, toasted marshmallow between two halves of a HONEY MAID Graham Cracker. The chocolate will begin to ooze from the heat of the marshmallow, and the graham cracker is delightfully crunchy. Eat immediately!
Because I’m always operating the camera, it’s a challenge for me to get in on the action… but I just had to make s’mores, too! I just had to make sure the kiddos didn’t try to steal them from me. Words cannot express how delicious they are. This is seriously a must-have summer treat.
Because it felt almost like we were camping out, the kids played inside their tent that we set up in the backyard. What a fun way to enjoy late summer nights. I’m hoping to create fun memories with the kids they will cherish forever.
