Working full-time outside my home has been an adjustment, but finding the perfect teacher snack definitely helps!
If somehow you missed the memo, this past August I began teaching third grade. That means I transitioned from a work-from-home job for about 7 years to a full-time job with an actual employer, coworkers, etc. And wow, it was a huge transition indeed! During the 2017-2018 school year, I began substitute teaching at my children’s school. Last school year, I subbed one to two times a week in grades kindergarten through fifth. I got accustomed to the school schedule, built relationships with so many of the children at the school who I see daily now, and enjoyed all I was able to teach them, even in just one day as a substitute teacher. I’m incredibly grateful to have a wonderful classroom filled with eighteen little personalities who light up my life daily, but it’s definitely a challenge. I was used to working at my own pace, planning out my own schedule daily, relaxing with a latte and music in the background as I crafted my blog posts, writing content and editing photographs. I was also going to the gym a few times a week for physical and mental health breaks. I was more accustomed to my flexibility than I realized, but something was missing. And that something was the positive impact I was able to have on my community. I felt such a strong desire to be a part of something greater than myself – and teaching has definitely filled that void.
PURCHASE SNYDER’S® OF HANOVER PRETZEL CANISTERS AT PUBLIX FOR A SALE PRICE OF $5.99 FROM 10/26/19 – 11/24/19.
With all of the adjustments I’ve had to make to my daily life, there’s one thing I haven’t changed – my grazing behaviors. I am by nature a grazer. I rarely eat a real breakfast {usually just a granola bar on–the–go} and my class has lunch at 10:15, so I need to be able to snack throughout the day, especially when my students leave at 1:50. These Snyder’s® of Hanover Pretzel Snaps canisters are the perfect snack to keep in my classroom! I can grab a handful while I’m grading papers, monitoring my students as they complete their assignments, and after they leave for the day. They are also non-GMO Project Verified and made in a peanut-free facility, which is super important in classrooms. They’re perfect for the office, dorm, or at home!
One of the best things about purchasing this 25-ounce container at Publix is that I can screw the lid on and keep them fresh for weeks {or as long as it takes me to eat all of them}. I can easily store them in the cabinets in my classroom. I’ve always preferred salty, crunchy snacks over sweet snacks, so a small bowl of pretzels definitely gives me that little burst of energy to keep going so I can be the best teacher to my students.
Now that I’ve completed my first quarter back in the classroom, my confidence is beginning to grow. I’m adjusting to a rigorous schedule, and I’m finding ways to really enjoy teaching. A teachers job never ends – I’m planning science lessons in my head at 2 am on a Tuesday, grading papers at 6 am on a Thursday, and purchasing snacks for my classroom at 5 pm on a Sunday. I’m grateful for the opportunity to provide a positive learning experience to a great group of kids, and I’m learning to take time for myself to catch my breath, organize my thoughts and materials, and grab a great snack, like Snyder’s® of Hanover Pretzel Snaps.
