That party had such a fun 50s throwback theme with a cake recipe that matched it perfectly! If you’d like to try this fun cake – perfect for summer celebrations – check out the recipe below.
Creamsicle Crunch Cake Ingredients:
Cake:
- 1 package yellow cake mix
- 8 ounces orange soda
- 1/3 cup oil
- 3 eggs
- zest of one orange
Topping:
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 T milk
- 1 T orange juice (find one at the Orangina website)
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
Creamsicle Crunch Cake Directions:
Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees. In a mixing bowl, combine the package of yellow cake mix, Orange Crush, oil, eggs, and the zest of one orange. The batter will be thick, but will make a very moist, fluffy cake.
Pour the orange batter into a greased bundt pan and bake for about 40 minutes, until it turns golden brown. Allow the cake to cool completely before taking it out of the pan. Bundt cakes are such a fun old-school way to make a cake, and it’s so easy because you don’t have to worry about multiple cake pans or perfecting the frosting or anything like that.
In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and orange juice. This will form a thick glaze to pour over the top of your cake. It looks extra pretty if you carefully drizzle it in a zigzag design over the cake. {Thanks, mom, for helping me out with this one!} Seriously, easiest cake ever to decorate!
The final step is to sprinkle the sliced almonds over the cake – that’s the ‘crunch’ part – and then slice a delicious piece for yourself! My kids and mom both enjoyed this special treat. I love the vibrant color from the orange soda and flavor from the addition of the orange zest.
