This fun Cactus Party + Burger Bar is the perfect way to enjoy a warm summer day outdoors with friends and family!
We are starting to think about all different types of fun ideas for the summer, and since we have an amazing backyard, we began with this Cactus Party and Burger Bar. Since Richard is a teacher, he will be home most of the summer. That means lots of time to have fun together! Check out this summer party, with tablescape ideas and a delicious recipe below.
Cactus Party Tablescape
Whenever I plan a party, I consider two factors: the food and the theme. I like the two to complement one another, so when I considered the vegetarian burger bar element, I thought it would be fun to do a plant-themed party. Why not choose a cactus party? For this tablescape, I focused on the color green. I purchased a green table runner, green cups, green pitcher, green ramekins, green paper plates, and green plasticware. I didn’t have any green cake stands, and I wanted a little variety, so I went with a clay saucer sitting atop a clay pot. It makes a great DIY cake stand on a budget! Creative, right? You can find these in the garden section at Walmart. I also purchased some real succulents to add to my party. Since I’m setting up the party outdoors, it captures the vibe perfectly. Oh, and how cute is the cactus banner? It adds just the right touch!
Cactus Party Burger Bar Spread
As mentioned above, rather than going with traditional burgers, I purchased black bean burgers, specifically MorningStar Farms® Spicy Black Bean Burgers. These were my favorites when I was a vegetarian, and I still very much enjoy them now! They are simple to prepare and have a great flavor paired with a variety of toppings. You may also want to try the new Morningstar Farms Quarter Pound Veggie Burgers. They are delicious, perfectly crafted burgers that will fill your bun with more and leave you satisfied every time. Each quarter pound burger is perfectly seasoned and packs each bite with plant-based protein and tasty veggies. It’s made with 12 different veggies, 2 seeds, and 2 grains, plus 10 grams of plant-based protein. I love the Black Bean Burgers, so I cannot wait to try these new Quarter Pound Veggie Burgers. They sound great! You can expect to see them in stores soon.
Here are the toppings I selected for my burger bar:
- Great ValueTM Sliced Pepper Jack Cheese
- Hunt’s® Natural Ketchup
- Gulden’s® Spicy Brown Mustard
- RO*TEL® Original
- DOLE® Sliced Pineapple in 100% Pineapple Juice
- Cholula® Green Pepper Hot Sauce
- Sliced jalapeños
- Sliced avocado
I also selected several sides for my burgers, including Pringles® in three varieties {Original, Cheddar, Cheddar and Sour Cream}, sliced watermelon, and Checkers® Rally’s Famous Seasoned Fries. The fries can be heated in your oven and set out to accompany the burgers, the watermelon can be quickly sliced, and the Pringles are ready to go! These are such easy sides for your cactus party. For beverages, I grabbed some cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon® and bottles of Nestlé® Pure Life® Purified Water.
Cactus Party Recipes
Here’s the fun part – It’s time to build my favorite recipe with these ingredients: a Southwest Black Bean Burger.
Southwest Black Bean Burger ingredients:
- Morningstar Farms Spicy Black Bean Burger
- Arnold® Country Potato Sandwich Bun
- RO*TEL® Original
- 1 slice Great ValueTM Sliced Pepper Jack Cheese
- Sliced avocado
- Sliced jalapeno
- Cholula® Green Pepper Hot Sauce
Southwest Veggie Burger directions:
This is a delicious spicy veggie burger! I began by heating my black bean burger on a griddle on my stovetop with the best GE range, but you can also grill it outdoors. While it is still warm, add one slice of pepper jack cheese. Top with several slices of fresh avocado and jalapeños and a spoonful of RO*TEL®. Top with a splash of Cholula Green Pepper Hot Sauce, and serve!
One last item you won’t want to forget — Kleenex® Wipes. Whenever we are outdoors, hosting a party, my kids get their hands so messy. Between eating food, digging in the dirt, playing on the swing, etc., we need wipes for clean up!
Head to Walmart where you can find all of the ingredients for this Southwest Black Bean Burger and many of the decorations, like the clay pots and saucers, for the Cactus Party. After a quick shopping trip at Walmart, I loaded up my trunk, and I was ready to head home because it was party time!
The Burger Bar Truck Tour is happening now, exclusively at participating Walmart stores! Head over to BurgerBarTruck.com to see if it’s traveling to a Walmart near you and find even more delicious recipe inspiration from renowned Chef Capon, 6-time Burger Bash NYC Champion and savings so that you can bring the Burger Bar Home!
