How the heck is it already Easter time? Weren’t we just celebrating the new year and Christmas and Thanksgiving? Well, since I cannot stop time, I just need to embrace that it’s officially spring by baking a delicious dessert: Springtime Candy Blondies. These are similar to the Witch’s Brew Brownies I made for Halloween, but rather than using dark chocolate, gummy worms, and candy bones, I am making M&M’S® Blondies topped with pastel candies and sprinkles. These are just so fun! Your kids will love helping you with this recipe.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups flour
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 3/4 cup light brown sugar
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 1/2 t salt
- 1 1/2 t baking powder
- 1/2 t baking soda
- 3/4 cup M&M’S® Milk Chocolate
- 3/4 cup chocolate chips
- 1 container vanilla frosting
- Optional: green sprinkles, Easter sprinkles, M&M’S® Milk Chocolate, Starburst® Jelly Beans
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Begin by gathering your ingredients. I chose Starburst® Jelly Beans and M&M’S® Milk Chocolate as the candies to decorate my Springtime Candy Blondies. These candies are all available at Walmart {details below}. The green sprinkles I chose are so cool because they are really thin and look like grass, perfect for these blondies!
To make the batter for this recipe, mix the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar in stand mixer until well combined. Add the eggs and mix. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Slowly add this mixture to the wet ingredients until combined. Fold in chocolate chips and M&M’S® Milk Chocolate.
Press the batter {which is really almost like a cookie dough} into a greased 9″ x 9″ baking pan. You can use a 9″ x 13″ pan to make thinner blondies, but I like that these almost come out like a chocolate chip cookie cake. Place in the oven for about 35 minutes until the blondies feel cooked through in the middle.
Remove the blondies from the oven and allow them to cool completely. When they are completely cooled, remove the entire square of blondies and place on a cutting board. While I love homemade buttercream on cakes, I actually like using pre-made vanilla frosting for this recipe. Frost the entire blondie.
Now to the fun part: decorating. Begin by adding lots of colorful springtime sprinkles over the vanilla frosting. Then add your favorite candies, like M&M’S® Milk Chocolate and Starburst® Jelly Beans. I love all the fun Easter colors!
Cut your blondies into 12 separate pieces and enjoy! These would make a great centerpiece for your Easter dessert table, filled with plastic eggs, pretend grass, colorful flowers, and all of your other fun springtime decorations.
