Create a Scooby-Doo Mystery Reading Game your kids will have tons of fun playing!
When I was a kid, before the availability of tablets, smartphones, or even computers, we used our imaginations daily to create all kinds of crazy games. One of my favorites was a mystery clue game I would play with my childhood best friend. We would take turns hiding an item, and writing clues that we would strategically place throughout the house to find the hidden item. Each clue would lead to the next clue’s hiding place until we finally find the mystery item. I thought this would be a really fun game to place with my kids, especially if the prize at the end was the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine by Playmobil! I hid each clue with a different Scooby Doo figure that my kids could collect together along the way. Bonus: It’s a mystery reading game, so kids are working on academic skills while having fun. Check out the necessary materials and detailed game play!

Directions to create the Scooby Doo Mystery Reading Game:
I began by assembling all of the figures and the Mystery Machine within each of these PLAYMOBIL® SCOOBY-DOO! sets. These are new to Walmart, and feature all of the beloved characters from this classic cartoon. There are simple step-by-step instructions that help you put each piece together, add stickers, and set up the toys for play. I just love quality toys for children that encourage imaginative play!
Once assembled, it was time to create my *mystery* clues. In total, I wrote seven clues. I found a really cool retro font on Canva {my favorite place to create printables}, wrote rhyming clues directing the kids to different parts of our home – inside and out – and printed them on card stock. If you don’t have a printer, you can absolutely hand write the clues as well. I printed two per page, cut them in half, and they were ready to hide.
Each clue led my children to a different mystery location, and each location had another clue and a Scooby-Doo figure. They had fun running through the backyard, front yard, and main areas of the house, like the kitchen and living room. It was awesome to get them to get in some movement while working on their problem-solving skills. Together, they solved each mystery to move on to the next clue and collect the next figure.
When they were finished with the mystery reading game that led them to the Mystery Machine, they continued to play with the Scooby-Doo toys on our picnic table outdoors. It was a beautiful day to enjoy some imaginative play outside.
