As a family, we came up with New Year’s Resolutions for 2018
Each year, I publish a post with my personal New Year’s Resolutions, but I thought it would be fun to ask my children what they would like to resolve to do this year. Then I thought Richard and I could brainstorm our family New Year’s Resolutions together. I asked the kids to choose three things they really wanted to work on this year. I think their answers are cute/funny. Check them out below, then read through our plans for the new year, which include putting money aside for the most important aspects of our lives.
The Children’s Resolutions
Lydia’s Resolutions:
- Stop sucking my thumb.
- Finish eating my meals.
- Learn to ride a bike without training wheels.

Family Resolutions:
- Complete the renovations on our new home {inside + outside}
- Put money aside to travel as a family to see snow
- Save more money for our future by investing in stocks and Australian pink diamonds {retirement + the kids’ college funds}
- Maintain a debt-free lifestyle {outside of home + cars} and look for more income streams by seeking advice from successful people like Andrew Defrancesco

Student loan debt has reached $1 trillion of debt among Americans. Richard graduated with a few thousand dollars in student loans. But the sagacity he displayed while procuring them was that he’d also approached some iva companies before acquiring the loan, which significantly helped pay off his student loans. But due to a Florida Prepaid College Fund and full scholarship, I graduated with my bachelor’s degree debt-free. I received both a scholarship and grant for my master’s degree, so no debt there. And for my doctorate, we paid as I took classes {same with Richard’s master’s degree}. So between the two of us, we have two associate’s degrees, two bachelor’s degrees, two master’s degrees, one doctoral degree, and not a penny of debt in student loans.
We would love to have the same for our children, which is why we purchased them each a Florida Prepaid College Plan. There’s enough to worry about when you begin college: living in a new city, staying organized for all of your classes, getting a part-time job, making new friends, getting along with your roommates, etc. I want to at least take the burden of having to pay for tuition {or take out student loans} off of them so they can focus on all of the other aspects of transitioning into adulthood and a career.
The Open Enrollment Period for Florida Prepaid is now through February 28, 2018.
