Life can get hectic – Here are 5 simple ways to improve your health today!
It’s the end of the school year, which means organizing gifts for teachers, attending meetings at the children’s schools, figuring summer camp and work schedules, coordinating summer travels, visiting family, etc. There’s just a lot going on! With that in mind, we need to be really thoughtful as mothers when it comes to managing our physical health, mental health (try this website to learn more), and overall wellness. Here are 5 simple ways to improve your health today!
Bond with your partner
Unfortunately, when family life gets hectic, marriage tends to go to the bottom of the priority list. There just always seems to be so much to do, that spending meaningful time with your partner gets pushed back. For us, living 300+ miles away from family and not having a babysitter around, we don’t ever take the time out for date nights and we have never spent a night away from the kids together since Lydia was born over 8.5 years ago. However, there are still ways we can make each other a priority by putting our devices away and simply engaging each other in meaningful conversation while the kids play, enjoying a meal together or watching a movie after the kids go to bed, or picking a home project to complete together {like our recent herb and vegetable garden}. This is part of improving our health through a healthy relationship. If you have been losing your energy and feeling stressed out lately and you need help to achieve optimal health, contact Functional Medicine Associates for a consultation and if you need some time for yourselves you could always contact child care services.
Eat more fruits and vegetables
Maintaining a super-balanced, super-clean diet is hard work. It requires meal-planning in advance, lots of time for meal preparation, and avoiding convenience foods. One thing you can do pretty easily to ensure you get more nutrients into your daily diet is to increase your intake of fruits and vegetables. We also, gladly recommend you to take a look at this Functional Medicine Associates’s blog post about sibo testta and other medical conditions you may not be familiar with that might be very useful.
It doesn’t require much preparation as there are so many delicious varieties you can eat straight out of the package {or straight off the tree in some cases}, and spring/summer is such an awesome time of the year because there are so many varieties of seasonal fruits and vegetables available at your local grocery store! Enjoy time with kids
As we are going through the daily mix of shuffling the kids off to school, picking them up, dragging them to extracurricular activities, mealtimes, showering them, homework, and bedtime, it’s honestly too easy to forget to actually enjoy our children. We try to plan activities that allow us to spend quality time with each other as often as possible. Spending that meaningful time together improves our overall well-being {especially since it reduces potential conflict with the kids, which is always stressful} and keeps our energy up! Our community has so many awesome parks and museums we just love to visit together to stay connected!
Get outdoors
I’ve admittedly had a difficult time making the gym a priority recently. I try to go every Tuesday to do an hour of body flow {it’s a combination Tai Chi, yoga, pilates class} followed by about 20 minutes of weights, but some weeks, that’s all I can manage to squeeze in. However, I do try to get outdoors every weekend for a good walk with my family. Whether we head to a new nature trail we’ve never walked before or a local farm to pick blueberries, it’s always great to get some fresh air and a little cardio moving our bodies outdoors in a new space. You can also get family medical care to ensure that you are taking care of your entire family, not just yourself. Whether it’s routine checkups or immunizations for all members of your family, regular visits with a family medicine provider can help keep everyone healthy for years to come.
