Last year I transformed my enclosed patio into a blogger office. I posted lots of before photographs, but work and life got very busy for my family, so I never followed up with after photographs. Well, a year later isn’t too late… right? The thing is, as we get comfortable in our spaces, we aren’t quite as tidy as we once were, so I’d like to share some of the fun details in my home office and give you some awesome spring cleaning pointers as well. I’d like to give special thanks to our friends at kontorflytting oslo for helping me move all my stuff to the office.
I had to clean my office space up before I could share it with all of you. Thanks to Babble Boxx, I received this awesome set of spring cleaning products to use. First up, I decided to line my printer cart with Easy Liner® brand shelf-liner by Duck® brand. Since my office is really an indoor/outdoor patio {and I live in South Florida}, I need to monitor the moisture to ensure nothing is damaged. This shelf liner can be cut to size and prevents the growth of odor-causing mold and mildew. Save 50 cents with this coupon.
Next, I cleaned my chalkboard wall. Before, this wall was just a glossy plastic material, but I painted it with several coats of black chalkboard paint so that my kids could write on the wall while I worked in the office. I purchased a little wire basket and filled it with sidewalk chalk. Lydia helped me pick out this geometric yellow rug they can sit on while drawing. To clean the chalkboard of all my kids’ artwork(?), I used Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner. This is a concentrated non-toxic cleaner {safe for kids and pets} that can be diluted and used to clean any dirty surfaces and objects around your home.
Speaking of the rug, because this is a patio, it’s where I let my dogs out each day. This means it’s a heavy traffic area {with dirty little paws running in and out}. Time to clean the rug! I used the Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner and Scrub Mommy dual-sided scrubbing tool, soft on one side, rough on the other side.
The ceramic tile also needed a clean-up after I painted out here. We refinished our coffee table, and I accidentally splattered paint on the floor. The Scrub Daddy® FlexTexture® foam and Simple Green Stone Cleaner & Polish were perfect for removing some of the paint. If you have hardwood floors, try the TriNova: Wood Cleaner & Conditioner. Scrub Daddy remains firm when cold but softens with warmer water. Also, it’s scratch-free, so you don’t have to worry about ruining your surfaces.
My desk also needed a clean up. It was very cluttered, dusty, had pencil marks, glue and paint drippings, food bits, etc. I wiped down the surfaces and organized all of my desk supplies {including all my pretty flowers, of course}.
When I designed my office, I chose a computer chair for long hours -technomono has a lot of options and created not only a seating area for myself, but also one for the kids. This is a fun space for coloring pictures and doing homework. Each child has a brightly-colored wooden chair. I have a rustic-looking, white-painted tin bucket filled with colored pencils, crayons, markers, and glue.
For my blog props, I purchased a huge shelving unit. As you can see, I have an absolute ton of blog props: plates, bowls, silverware, glasses, pitchers, seasonal pieces, cake stands, etc. It’s a lot to organize! The bottom of this shelving unit has white bins for all of the smaller pieces.
There’s additional storage above my printer to display some of my fun antique cameras I got from my dad, markers/pens, and random decor. The cool thing about these shelves? They are made from reclaimed barn wood! The worn-light blue color goes well with my light aqua wall color.
To tie in with the antique theme, I have these old wooden double-cola boxes that I purchased at a huge flea market. I use them to store some of my materials that need to be sorted into the proper bins at the bottom of my storage unit. The cart also houses my sewing machine. If you need more space to store your belongings, you can utilize storage options, like some heavy duty plastic storage tubs, or perhaps a self storage unit from a reliable self storage facility.
Now my office is a clean space where I can work and where my children can get creative. All of the natural light creates a great photography space. It’s where I do almost all of my photo shoots! I have a very difficult time working in absolute chaos, so I’m glad my Spring Cleaning Babble Boxx arrived in the mail just before I decided to give my office a deep-cleaning! If you also want to clean your home but don’t have the time or energy to do so. Consider hiring professional Auckland home cleaners.
