These Game Day Hot Dog Bar ideas are easy to prepare!
Living in the college town of Gainesville, Florida, football season is a BIG deal! Even professional games are played at all our local sports bars. However, with two young kids, we generally stay home and watch all the games on TV. While Richard is a huge football fan, I prefer enjoying game day food. I’ve posted several different ideas for homegating parties on the blog, but here’s a new one: Game Day Hot Dog Bar. I decided it would be fun to prepare something new and something traditional. For the new recipe, I made Philly Cheese Dogs. A classic Ball Park® Hot Dog and Hot Dog Bun, sauteed onions & peppers, and a creamy cheese sauce take this game-day recipe to a whole new level! And for your guests who may want something other than hot dogs, set out Hillshire Farm® ham and gouda cheese to make ham & cheese roll-ups.
Watch the video below to learn how to make Philly Cheese Dogs with Ball Park® Hot Dogs and Hot Dog Buns.
Ingredients:
- 1 green pepper, sliced
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 1 T oil
- 8-pack Ball Park® Hot Dogs
- 8-pack Ball Park® Hot Dog Buns
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 T corn starch
- 1/2 t garlic powder
- salt & pepper to taste
Directions:
ONIONS & PEPPERS: Add one tablespoon of oil to a saute pan. Add sliced onions and peppers to the pan. Saute until the onions and peppers are caramelized {a little brown along the edges}.
CHEESE SAUCE: Add 1/2 cup of whole milk to a saucepan and bring to a gentle boil. Toss one cup of shredded cheddar cheese with a tablespoon of corn starch. Add the cheese and corn starch mixture to the milk, along with the garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Whisk together until the cheese melts and milk thickens to make a cheese sauce.
When you’ve prepared each component – including heating your hot dogs through – set it up so your guests can assemble their own Philly Cheese Dogs and serve themselves.
So you remember how I said I was preparing something “traditional” and something “new”? I went with a classic: Pigs in a Blanket. This time, I used Hillshire Farm® Lit’l Smokies® Smoked Sausage. They make the perfect bite-sized party snack! Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F, cut small pieces of triangular crescent roll dough, roll your Hillshire Farm® Lit’l Smokies® Smoked Sausage in the dough, and place on a cookie sheet. Bake about 12 – 15 minutes, until the crescent dough is golden brown. Serve with fun flag toothpicks for a game day touch!
